A Rhode Island native, Colleen danced professionally in New York and Europe before returning to Rhode Island to receive a medical degree from Brown University. In NYC, she trained with Alfredo Corvino and Janet Paneta and performed with several modern dance and ballet companies.

 

After returning to Providence she initially choreographed for Cadence Dance Project. Her work has been presented in NYC at Ballet Builders, the 92nd Street Y, the Joyce SoHo and at the West End Theatre. In Boston she presented at Dance on the Top Floor. Colleen choreographed for Festival Ballet Providence and Island Moving Company for over ten years.

 

Colleen received several fellowship in choreography awards from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. She co-created the 2001 European tour of the art and healing project, Waking Dreams and Warrior Women.

 

Doctor Cavanaugh has a B.A. in Art History from Wheaton College. She also maintains an Ob/Gyn practice in Rhode Island and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Brown University. In 2012, she founded Part of the Oath. As artistic director, she has integrated her worlds of medicine and dance with the company’s rich community outreach.
